No, you haven’t stumbled into the wrong thread. The Minnesota Twins are indeed hosting the Colorado Rockies this afternoon. But last week, I checked another ballpark—Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona—off my bucket list. So, as the Twins battle another NL West opponent, it seems a good time to drop a few pics from that trip here!

For starters, I really enjoyed Chase Field! It will never be in my tippy-top of ballparks because it is mostly enclosed. I realize this is an absolute necessity in the AZ summer heat (it hit at least 105 every day I was there), but them’s the breaks. It is the highest-rated park-with-a-roof in my listings! Fun atmosphere, friendly people, interesting things to look at, and some great food (more on that later).
One of the in-park highlights for me was–as usual–the historical bend. Right now, their team Hall of Fame is oriented towards the 25th anniversary of their 2001 World Series championship over the New York Yankees. It was a thriller right to the end if you don’t recall and I remember watching every moment of it! I also found a few familiar faces hanging around.
Time for the eats. Whenever I do these trips, I like to sample some ballpark wares and also find some donut, burger, and/or ice cream joints in the area.
Finally: because I grew up playing Captain Fantastic & The Brown Dirt Cowboy in my grandparents’ basement, I’m a sucker for some pinball. I found two joints in downtown PHX to satiate my silver ball needs!
It was a really fun trip overall! As an outdoor walker at heart, I don’t think AZ would be a live-able environment for me due to the intense heat, but the short decampment to the desert was delightful!
Time to continue battling westerly opponents.
