The Minnesota Vikings don't have many voids heading into the 2026 season. It's a huge reason why the team is seeing division championship projections from NFL analysts.

They do have one position in need of an upgrade following the trade of star pass rusher Jonathan Greenard. Now, analysts are suggesting the team may opt to sign experience NFL starter Leonard Floyd to the team.
Dustin Baker of Vikings Territory discussed the possibility that the Vikings would make the veteran addition. Here's what Baker had to say about the possibility of Floyd to Minnesota.
"With Jonathan Greenard’s departure, the Vikings have a clear need for an additional outside linebacker. They just do. What happens if Andrew Van Ginkel or Dallas Turner get hurt? Start the season with Turner and Bo Richter as the main EDGE rushers?
The trade of Greenard and a 7th-round pick to the Eagles for a 2026 3rd-Rounder and a 2027 3rd-Rounder, while a decent return, altered their pass-rushing depth. With Greenard, their pass rush was formidable; without him, the primary burden falls on Van Ginkel and Turner, with considerably less-experienced backups.
That’s where Floyd could prove invaluable. Floyd’s familiarity with Kevin O’Connell (2021 Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl season) could put this deal over the top. Bringing him in would add a veteran who can play a high volume of snaps, which would be crucial if injuries accumulate.
The move is not about a blockbuster signing, but rather a strategic acquisition to prevent the EDGE room from becoming dangerously thin by midseason."

The former Alabama Crimson Tide edge rusher, Turner, broke out in the 2025 season, but did so with Greenard taking some attention away from him. With Turner now fully in the spotlight, players like Van Ginkel and Eric Wilson will have a greater responsibility to make plays. Adding Floyd would help distribute the load.
Floyd won't make the Vikings pass rush elite necessarily, but he would make it more solid. Being average at edge opposite Turner will only amplify what he is able to do in the upcoming season.
The Vikings roster is much closer to complete than it was last season. It can inch closer with a more proven commodity to place across from Turner on the other side. We'll see if the Vikings make the move.
