As those two are integrated into the regular lineup, general manager Bobby Webster is still on the hunt for more players to help push the franchise towards championship contention. Rumors continue to swirl about particular players being on the trading block, with free agency set to begin on Tuesday.
Toronto Raptors general manager Bobby Webster | Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY SportsMany teams were on hold when it came to pursuing players because of the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes. Now that he has been officially traded to the Miami Heat, teams are looking to move their players elsewhere.
The team that was most linked to the Milwaukee Bucks and Antetokounmpo was the Boston Celtics. They were looking to trade former Finals MVP and five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown, and after failing to land the former MVP and DPOY, that stance hasn’t changed.

They aren’t alone, though, as the other teams reported to have expressed interest in his acquisition are the Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, Charlotte Hornets, Atlanta Hawks, and Los Angeles Clippers.

Trading for a player who just finished sixth in MVP voting will never be easy to do. The fact that he’s even on the trading block shows how desperate the Celtics are for a change, but the Raptors could potentially suffice those needs.
It should be clear that the only real players in Toronto who should be considered untouchable are Scottie Barnes and Collin Murray-Boyles. While Brandon Ingram may have more trade value, the Celtics may desire RJ Barrett more because of his positional fit and contract situation. He will be able to sign a new extension immediately and will be a nice complement to Jayson Tatum as a certified secondary scorer.
Toronto Raptors forward/center Collin Murray-Boyles (12) and forward Scottie Barnes (4) | Jerome Miron-Imagn ImagesToronto would have to throw in either Jakob Poeltl or Immanuel Quickley to match Brown’s supermax contract. Both positions are thin for Boston, so if the Raptors were to throw in two or three of their seven total first-round picks available, both teams could benefit from the deal without giving up too much.
Brown could prove to be the perfect complement to Barnes, as one of the best two-way guards in the league. So, Webster should not be conservative when it comes to pursuing one of the best possible candidates who can fuel the organization to its first playoff series win since the Bubble in 2020.
