The Washington Capitals showed restricted free agent forward Justin Sourdif the money. On Tuesday, the Capitals announced their signing of Sourdif to a massive contract extension.

“The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward Justin Sourdif to an eight-year, $50.8 million contract. Sourdif’s contract will carry an average annual value of $6.35 million,” the Caps shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.
The 24-year-old Sourdif is coming off just his first season in Capitals threads, appearing in 78 games and scoring 15 goals to go along with 20 assists for 35 points. He arrived in D.C. in June of last year in a trade with the Florida Panthers for a 2026 second-rounder and a 2027 seventh-rounder.

The Capitals are happy with this development, believing that Sourdif can become a bigger contibutor to the team on the ice.
“Justin is a good young forward who has continued to develop steadily throughout his career. He is versatile and demonstrated his ability to play an important forward role for our team whenever the opportunity arose last season,” Washington Senior Vice President and General Manager Chris Patrick said of Sourdif, via a statement on the team’s official website.
“We are thrilled to sign him to a long-term contract and look forward to seeing him continue to elevate his game alongside our veteran core and our young group of players. We believe he has a bright future ahead of him and are confident that he will continue to make valuable contributions to our organization in the coming years.”
The deal with Sourdif comes on the heels of the Capitals signing Ryan Leonard to an $84 million extension.
