The deadly incident happened as the Carnival Liberty was sailing from Celebration Key — Carnival’s exclusive island in Grand Bahama — to Nassau, People magazine reported.

Crew aboard the ship responded quickly with a search effort and managed to retrieve the male passenger from the water, but he was pronounced dead, the spokesperson said.

The cruise company said it was providing support to the man’s relatives, who were reportedly travelling with him.

According to CruiseMapper , the Carnival Liberty was on a seven-day round-trip journey from New Orleans to the Bahamas. The ship had departed the Port of Louisiana on May 10 and is scheduled to return on May 17, with stops in Key West, Fla., Celebration Key and Nassau.

Recent falls reported

The man’s death came less than a week after another Carnival Cruise passenger died in the Bahamas.

Last Saturday, an 88-year-old American woman lost control of her mobility scooter and plunged off the pier at Celebration Key.

A Carnival spokesperson told People the Carnival Celebration was docked at the port during the incident.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force said they believe the elderly woman struck her head against the hull of the vessel before landing in the water.

Last month, a woman aboard the Carnival Firenze fell from the balcony of her stateroom and landed on a deck below.

The incident happened while the ship was in Catalina Island, off the coast of Southern California, on April 27.

A statement from Carnival said the woman was travelling with family, who alerted the ship’s crew of the situation.

On April 17, another passenger in his 70s was aboard the Carnival Splendor , travelling towards Sydney, Australia, when he “apparently climbed over a safety railing and jumped,” the Brisbane Times reported.

Officials in Australia conducted a search for the man but were unable to locate him.
